It opens our methodologies into a participatory practice of shared&nbsp;world-making, where creation becomes a collaborative process rather than an individual act. The term originates from an open-source bio-art network called Hackteria, where knowledge is shared non-hierarchically, authority is distributed, and process is valued above predetermined outcomes. It builds on the concept of public amateurism, defined by artist Claire Pentecost as the process of learning, doing, and failing in the public sphere. It grounds itself in the recognition that we are beings of the earth, enmeshed in its joys, wounds, transformations, and political ecologies. Despite centuries of colonial thinking that has created the illusion of separateness, to be is to inter-be with everything else. We inter-are. Collective and participatory structures of workshopology can nurture attunement, repair, and new forms of co-creating with the more-than-human. Los Angeles) is an artist, researcher and pedagogue whose practice revolves around workshopology, a shared process of knowledge production and care that can move us beyond pollution, planetary wounds, grief, and collective uncertainty. These workshopologies center ecological crisis as the starting point for embodying our permeability and vulnerability, informed by what the more-than-human already knows and feels. With this participatory practice, Maggic constantly searches for new embodied strategies for dissolving the boundaries between the personal and the planetary, entering into new, de-colonial modalities of shared world-making. After completing their Masters at MIT Media Lab, Design Fiction, their project Open Source Estrogen was awarded Honorary Mention at the Prix Ars Electronica 2017 in Hybrid Arts. In 2019, they completed a 10-month Fulbright residency in Yogyakarta, Indonesia exploring the relationship between Javanese animism and the plastic pollution crisis. Later, Maggic received the 2022 Knight Arts + Tech Fellowship, and in 2024 completed the Labverde Speculative Ecologies program in the Amazon rainforest of Manaus, Brazil. In 2025, they launched the art-for-ecology platform&nbsp;ATELIER FLORESTANIA, where upcycled plastic is transformed into life-size tree sculptures through public workshops, sold to raise funds for our real forests. Practicing workshopology since 2015, Maggic professored the Summer 2026 course Workshopology &amp; Earthly Engagements at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Site-Specific Art. They are currently an artist-in-residence and project leader at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Network Medicine for the P.A.I.N. experimental course taught at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Site-Specific Arts department. From March to June 2026, fifteen students from various backgrounds, disciplines, and career-stages met weekly to engage in a collective process of participation, reflection, feedback, and care. The class lectures were divided into six thematics: 1. Artists, Warriors, and Public Amateurs2. From Biohacking to Collective Worldmaking3. Love and Workshopology4. Protocols of the Action Dimension5. The Energetics of Workshopology6. We Never Create AloneTogether over three months, students nurtured their individual seeds (topics they felt called to grow), excavated the hyperobjects of their seeds (systems they wished to dismantle), developed protocols (vehicles for delivering their medicine to the world), and designed choreographies (scores for their protocols). Their workshopologies were then given to the rest of the class in short-form and final long-form formats in a space of care and constructive feedback. A final class fanzine was created, co-authored by all of the students. It narrates the interconnection between earth's rhythms and daily life, revealing the threshold between the seen and the unseen. How do we feel, listen, remember, and relate to land, to each other, to unseen energies? The work draws inspiration from spiritual practices where women and gender-diverse people have historically been erased, such as kagura , sacred dances for cosmic balance, and shugendo , mountain pilgrimages rooted in nature worship. It questions how access to sacred space and the natural world has long been restricted, and how reclaiming this space may also be an act of spiritual return. Here, the rhythms of breathing mountains, traveling rivers, and dancing forests are intertwined with the human body. Landscape and body are not metaphorically linked but experienced as one. In one chapter, a noren (traditional fabric divider) drifts through nature, becoming a spiritual threshold and collector of ancestral memory. In another, a house breathes and listens, its wooden structure stretching across time. Forgotten objects called tsukumogami acquire a spirit after a hundred years and become vessels of the land's stories. These quiet presences suggest that even the inanimate holds memory and life. The house becomes an intermediate site of gathering, where spirits, family members, and lands come together in layered time. As sacred and everyday life merge, Cosmic Land, Cosmic Home leads us into an animistic world where all beings are interconnected and cyclical. Structured in four looping chapters, the film takes the shape of an Ouroboros, with its ending flowing seamlessly into its beginning. Time unfolds cyclically rather than linearly, where boundaries between past, present, and future blur, conveying that each lived cycle offers a deepening of spiritual consciousness. Their stories are told through our mutual becoming as the world theorizes in its collisions and mutations, over and over again. They ask us to recognize the porosity between our bodies and our environment, and allow ourselves to be entangled in our sublime web of connections. Even in our sea of polluting molecules, IT IS STILL A SUBLIME SEA OF CO-MATTERING. Through a co-generative re-articulation of our materials, we reject all notions of purity, fixity, and coloniality. We accept that all borders, even the barriers of our own skin, are really just transient spaces. In our continuous negotiations between worlds, we de-territorialize dystopia for a new queer commons. In this collective dramaturgy, waste and their relationalities are re-defined in the following three-step process: Step One: Encountering the Alien We arrive at a terraformed site where toxicity has leaked across bodies, space and time. Waste embodies all of the colonial logics of dis-sociation and dis-location. We scavenge the site for organic and synthetic materials, which become the starting point for the new world we seek to build. Step Two: Non-Ocular Sensing We bring our materials into a large pile and put on blindfolds. In the pitch darkness, we release the ocular centrism that has long built western-scientific constructs of matter and mattering. Moving towards our materials, we use hearing as a form of touching as a form of smelling as a form of seeing. We allow our intimacy to spill over into the more-than-human. Step Three: Collective World-Making From this newfound intimacy we build a new scenography that represents a new Hyperspecificity, a pleasurable breakage from old world systems. By remembering enchantment, we re-construct an idea of belonging that is centered on planetary wounds. 2025 15:44:23 +0000 Mary Maggic Official https://maggic.ooo/Becoming-a-Fossil “Becoming a Fossil” is a work about planetary storytelling, the tools we use (both ancient and modern) for reconstructing the Earth’s past, and how bodies hold memory like archives of trauma and recovery. The project also responds to the current traumas of the Anthropocene, where theorist Heather Davies has described pervasive plastic pollution as a form of Earth’s “metabolic indigestion,” where the natural and no longer be disentangled from the synthetic. For decades, Prof. Peter Frenzel of the Jena University Institute of Geosciences compares the cross-sectioning of a long rock core sample to reading a book dated 290 million years ago. According to West Africa’s Dagara cosmology, stones are believed to hold the stories of Earth’s changes and thus transmit wisdom and collective memory. In the artist’s own research into healing modalities, the human body, like the planetary body, is an archive of stored memory and trauma, where matter stays fatefully bound by the same wound. With today’s turmoil of climate emergencies, capitalist extraction, and collective psycho-social anxieties, what will be archived from our current state of transformation? In the aerial performance, situated in an entangled web of scavenged trash, the choreography illustrates our own bodies navigating our current collapse, dipping in and out of uncertainty, panic, and comfortability with falling. Our bodies store all the emotions of a land that cannot metabolize its own waste. “Becoming a Fossil” illustrates another survival story, sitting in rock, waiting to be read millions of years later.
